Homework

In kindergarten, much of our homework is completed through exploration and play. Kindergarten homework helps to develop responsibility, routines, and set the foundation for future homework practice.

Your child will have three different types of homework:

       Reading, Writing and Math.

Sound Book

During the beginning of the Jolly Phonics unit the students will bring home a sound book each day.  They will teach you the letter sound and action, song, and tell you a story about the letter.  We would like you to make sure that your child is bring home their book every day and practicing with you.  If you would like to do some more work with your child you could think of words that begin with the letter sound and even try to write them.

Writing Books

More information to come at the end of October!

Reading

*Read for about 15-20 minutes per night. Please spend 5-10 mins a night reading out loud to your child, and the other 5-10 minutes letting your child “read” to you. our We have been talking about the 4 ways kindergartners can read.

    Ways we “read”:
          *Read the words
*Retell a story that has been read to us
*Tell a story by looking at the pictures
          *Find known letters/sight words
